Exporting ontologies

Purpose

To export an ontology from an existing knowledge model.

Theory

In this exercise, you will export an ontology from an existing knowledge model. This is so that the ontology can be reused in another knowledge model.

The exported file is a conceptual graph in text file format, which can be opened in MS Notepad or another text editor.

Actions

To export an ontology:

  1. Open the Schengen Without Behaviour knowledge model.
  2. Select Export Ontology from the Ontology menu.
    Note
The Export Ontology function will export both concepts and relations from the ontology. If you want to export only concepts or relations, then select Export Concepts or Export Relations from the Ontology menu.
  3. Click on the Save In drop-down list and select the C: drive.
  4. Navigate to the Training\Introduction folder in the Erudine root directory.
  5. Enter Schengen Ontology in the File Name box and click the Save button.
You have now created a file containing the ontology of the Schengen Without Behaviour knowledge model. In the next exercise, you will import this file into a new knowledge model.
  6. Open My Computer and navigate to the Training\Introduction folder in the Erudine root directory, to confirm that you have successfully created the Schengen Ontology file.
  7. Open the Schengen Ontology file in MS Notepad or another text editor.
The ontology is displayed as a conceptual graph in text format
  8. Close the Schengen Ontology file.
  9. Close the knowledge model without saving changes.
