Renewing licences

Purpose

To replace an invalid licence or renew an expired licence to run the Erudine Behaviour Engine.

Theory

If the Licence screen is displayed when you open the Erudine Behaviour Engine, this means that your licence has expired or is invalid, and you will not be able to use the Erudine Behaviour Engine until you load a new licence. See Loading licences for details on how to load a licence.

A licence may need to be renewed because either the licence period has expired or the underlying hardware of the machine has changed in some way.

In this exercise, you will open an existing licence file and delete a few characters from it. This is to simulate a situation where an invalid or expired licence exists. You will then request a new licence, load it on to your machine and successfully run the Erudine Behaviour Engine. The process of requesting a new licence and loading it is the last part of the installation process, which is described in [int:Installing on to a Microsoft Windows environment] and Installing on a Unix or Linux environment.

Action

To renew a licence:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Navigate to one of the following locations to find the licence file, which is called license.lic:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\erudine\Server\license
    • /var/erudine/server/license
  3. Make a copy of the licen s e.lic file and the server.NaCl and save them in a temporary location, in case you do not successfully complete this exercise.
  4. Open the license.lic file in a text editor.
  5. Delete a few characters from within the licence file.
  6. Save the licence file.
  7. Start the Erudine Behaviour Engine by either:
    • Clicking the Start button of the Taskbar and selecting All Programs > Erudine > Erudine Behaviour Engine , if you are using Windows.
      Or
    • Entering startErudine.sh at the command prompt, if you are using Unix/Linux.
      The Licence screen is displayed.
  8. Refer to Loading licences and complete steps 5 to 11 to load a valid licence.
The new licence has now successfully replaced the invalid licence.
  9. Close the Erudine Behaviour Engine.
